Performance Upgrades

There are a number of upgrades that you can purchase to make your blokart go faster. If you want to go faster without spending more cash then check out our Tuning Tips page for a few ideas.

POD

From a recreational point of view the POD protects you from the elements. Keeping wind, wet sand and rain off you makes a huge difference to body warmth and comfort. It sure makes winter sailing a great deal more enjoyable. As a performance accessory the POD is a must. Its lower wind resistance enables you to maintain your momentum and travel faster, and its shell area lets you point higher into the wind.

Ultra CRB kit (Carbon Race Base)

The standard mast is flexible and foregiving and designed to make sailing fun. But when the wind hits, you will find that some of its energy is absorbed in the bending of the mast. The two CRB sections replace the standard bottom sections of the mast. They are stiffer and consequently you get substantially less flex. The energy of the wind is now transferred into driving your blokart harder. Ah yes...!

FBC kit (Full Blown Carbon)

All five mast sections in full blown carbon! Needless to say this mast is exceptionally stiff. As any combination of blokart glass and carbon masts may be used in order to comply with BAI racing regulations, these new sections are going to open up many new and interesting possibilities for the setup of 3m and 4m sails. Said to improve upwind ability, the FBC is likely to be particularly beneficial to the heavier sailor.

Disc Brake

Stop!...You can now, the blokart disc brake has been developed to assist slowing and stopping. Ideal for when you are sharing a parking lot with vehicles. Adjusters on either side of the caliper allow for easy tuning. The quick release brake lever also features a unique parking brake.

Big Foot

For use on softer terrain the Big Foot (the same size as the rear wheels) is less likely to bury in. Less resistance equals faster sailing. Performance sailors like the Big Foot option as they can offer more grip when tacking into strong wind.

Mast Crane

NEW: The second great bTech release is the Crane. The Crane replaces the webbing turban that secures the sail to the tip of the mast. The enclosed bearings allow it to swivel even under high downhaul tension. The top of the sail can rotate freely allowing it to twist off in lighter winds, improving the blokart's light wind performance. Unlike the turban, the Crane arm holds the top of the sail away from the mast allowing the true shape of the sail to set correctly. You will notice that the sail sets much cleaner with fewer wrinkles in the head.

This kit comes with three shackle sizes for sail tuning and an over sleeve that enables it to be mounted in both the first and second mast sections. The Crane works most effectively without the shakles (as seen in the setup of the pics here). This setup raises the sail up the mast by 10cm. This in of itself may be a performance enhancement, but the jury is still out on this one. You will need to adjust your downhaul to use it in this position. The other option is to cut a length off the top of your mast so the sail sits lower.

Windicator

Know what the wind is doing. This instrument will help you pick the windshifts and guide you on those upwind reaches.

Battens

Tuned battens improve the shape of your sail and enable you to get substantial power increases. BlownAway has three types available, each with their own bend characteristics. There is a lot to be explained on batten shape, so check out the batten page.

Downhaul Kit

This kit allows you to quickly and easily adjust the downhaul tension on your sail as you sail. This is particularly beneficial when the wind is unsteady or with any upwind/downwind sailing. Downhaul tension changes the efficiency of the sail dramatically.
Tips on using your downhaul.

Rachet Block

The Rachet Block replaces the pulley mounted on the mast base of the blokart. As you sheet in and pressure comes onto the block, the rachet engages, preventing the sheet rope from running out. It improves your performance by smoothing your sail control, and takes the pressure off your arm - a real plus on windy days, long journeys and big sessions.

Accessories

These accessories make blokart sailing more fun, more comfortable and will protect you and your blokart.

Shadow

Convert your blokart into a two seater with the Shadow side kart.

Deuce

The Deuce brings a new element to your blokart sailing - Team sailing.

MSP (Mast Sleeve Protector)

An essential accessory for everyone. These hard plastic shells clip over the mast pocket of your sail and protect it from damage in case you tip your blokart. All learners should start out using these, especially kids and light people who are more prone to tipping. Experienced sailors use these in high winds.

Foot Bar Extention

People getting up around 6 foot are likely to find their legs getting cramped. The Foot Bar Extension allows you to stretch out.

Junior Footbar

Offering sure footing for little humans, the junior foot bar is the perfect accessory for those 4ft and under to fit in the blokart.

Mast Bags

Carbon is a unique material - while being incredibly light and stiff it is also prone to shock. Protect your gear and keep your stuff in order with a mast bag. Standard or padded bags are available to hold 2, 3, 5 or 7 mast pieces.

The 5 piece padded bag and the 7 piece standard bag are shown here.

Harness

The 5-Point Harness was originally designed for the disabled and when youngsters use the Shadow. However, they have become popular with blokart enthusiasts, especially when attempting speed records! Some refer to it as the "Formula-1 Harness"!

Spare Rear Wheels

Having a spare rear wheel or two is the ultimate quick fix for a blowout. Having a practice set of wheels will ensure your racing set is in perfect condition when you need it. This is especially true if you are running steel bearings.

Front Rim

The higher the tyre pressure the faster you go. These new front rims are designed to handle 10psi more than the older rims. The hub caps are a really nice finish.
